PARAPHRASE
OF THE
PROVISIONS
OF
SECTION
19 OF THE
IMMIGRATION
ACT
19(l)(a):
proscribes
the
admission
of
persons
who in the
opinion
of
two
medical
officers
are
likely
to be a
danger
to
public health
or
safety,
or who
admission would reasonably
be
expected
to
cause
excessive demand
on
health
or
social services.
19(l)(b):
proscribes
the
admission
of
persons when there
are
reason-
able
grounds
to
believe that they will
be
unable
to
support themselves
and
dependents.
19(l)(c):
proscribes
the
admission
of
those
who
have been convicted
in
Canada
of an
offence
punishable
by ten
years
of
imprisonment.
19(l)(c.l)(i):
proscribes
the
admission
of
persons when there
are
reasonable grounds
to
believe that they have been convicted
of an
offence
outside Canada which constitutes
an
offence
punishable
by
ten
years
of
imprisonment
in
Canada, unless they have
satisfied
the
Minister that they have rehabilitated themselves
and
that
at
least
five
years
have elapsed since
the
expiration
of
sentence.
