The success of this guide has been the result of the dedication of so many
people. I am grateful to each one of you.
Without the forensic experts who contributed to this book, the idea
of creating a book by forensic experts for criminal lawyers would have
never gotten of‌f the ground. I was pleasantly surprised by the scientif-
ic community’s excitement about creating a book like this, and over the
two years we spent putting it together, I had the privilege to work with a
team of not only exceptional experts, but wonderful people. Thank you
for inspiring me to work early mornings, late nights, and weekends to do
my part in seeing this project to completion. To the Irwin Law team and
its president, Jef‌f Miller, thank you for taking a chance on this project in
the f‌irst place and for believing it could be done when all I came to you
with was an idea. Lesley Steeve and Alisa Posesorski, thank you for all the
long hours you spent polishing up this book and for guiding me through
my own responsibilities as editor. Your attention to detail and patience
throughout this process have been sincerely appreciated. Lesley, your
sense of humour made reading and rereading the same content over and
