ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Frank Zaid i s a senior partner in t he Toronto off‌ice of Osler, Hoskin &
Harcourt LLP. He has served as a member of the f‌ir m’s Executive Com-
mittee. He practises bu siness law with an emphasis on franchising, li-
censing, intellectual proper ty, marketing and distribution law and i s head
of the f‌irm’s Franchise & Di stribution Law Group. His practice focuses
on advising franchisors, franchisee associations and others involved in
franchising on al l aspects of Canadian franchi se legal matters. He has
served as Chai r of the Supplier Forum of the International Franch ise
Association, and is the Past General Counsel of the Canadian Franchise
Association. He has w ritten, spoken, been interv iewed and acted as an
expert witness on franchise matters on numerous occasions.
Frank has been listed as one of the leading fr anchise law pract i-
tioners in every published edition of the Can adian Legal Lexpert Direc-
tory, the Lexpert/America n Lawyer Guide to the Lead ing 500 Lawyers
in Canada, and the Inter national Who’s Who of Franchise Lawyers. He
was also liste d as one of the twenty-two most highly regarded franchise
lawyers in the world in the 20 05 edition of Who’s Who Legal, a reference
published annually by L aw Business Research Ltd. of London, UK. The
same publication named him t he most highly-nominated practitioner
outside of the United States.
In 2002 he was appointed a Co-Chair of the Uniform Law Confer-
ence of Canada Commercial Law St rategy project on a uniform fran-
chise law. Completed in August, 2005, this project has developed a
model uniform franchi se law for all of the provinces and territories of
Canada.
