The Internet is also an excellent place to find information on companies. Two obvious starting points for companies that publicly trade their shares are the SEDAR (System for Electronic Document Analysis and Retrieval) website for Canadian companies and the EDGAR (Electronic Data-Gathering, Analysis, and Retrieval) website for American companies (both of these sites are listed below), since disclosure rules in both countries require public companies to post their documents on these sites. Other sources of corporate information include company home pages, investor websites, and newswire websites, which will include news releases and other public statements by corporations.
