CONFLICT OF LAWS

It is not uncommon for a legal dispute among private parties to involve the laws of differ-

ent legal systems, for example, motor vehicle accidents involving Canadian cars in American

states, or contracts of sale undertaken in other jurisdictions. In these cases, Canadian courts

look to a set of rules that assist them in resolving such disputes. It should be noted that, as a

legal matter, conf‌lict of laws is different from international law, although many of the same
