Since the passage and commencement, in 1946 and 1947 respectively, of the federal Canadian

Citizenship Act (now simply the Citizenship Act), the issue of Canadian citizenship and its ac-

quisition has been strictly and unequivocally a matter of federal jurisdiction. Immigration to

Canada is governed by the Immigration & Protection of Refugees Act. There are, however, arrange-

ments made between the federal government and various provincial governments (all but On-

tario) by which immigrants will be directed to certain provinces according to the articulated list

of desired skills and training set out by the specif‌ic province. A signif‌icant subset of this topic

is that related to refugees and those seeking asylum in Canada. Related topic: REFUGEES.

une question étudiée en droit CONSTITUTIONNEL et tangentiellement en DROITS DE LA

PERSONNE ET CHARTE CANADIENNE DES DROITS ET LIBERTÉS. L’immigration concerne

le droit d’entrer au Canada pour y demeurer ou y séjourner, parfois en vue d’obtenir la citoyen-

neté. Il s’agit de droit ADMINISTRATIF, la plupart du temps, bien que certaines dimensions

relèvent des chartes des droits, voir du droit CRIMINEL. Les mêmes autorités administratives

disposent souvent des questions des RÉFUGIÉS. Les dimensions de droit INTERNATIONAL

PUBLIC sont présentes à l’horizon.
